Farming systems: facing uncertainties and enhancing opportunities

The 13th European IFSA Symposium was held 1-5 July 2018 in Chania, Crete - Greece. It was organised by Alex Koutsouris at the Athens Agricultural University: conference website.

Plenaries

The Symposium started with an interactive session with Raymond van Driel from the Applied Improvisation Network

The opening plenary was held by Maria Heubuch, Member of the European Parliament, on "Food sovereignty and agroecology. Guiding principles for the international agricultural system"

The closing plenary was held by Ian Scoones, STEPS Centre, on 'Farming, Systems, and Research: Knowledge, uncertainty and politics'

 

Themes

The full papers have undergone a review process before being included in the proceedings. The presentations of the papers and panel discussions were organised in 50 sessions, which were grouped in 5 themes:

Theme 1: Learning and knowledge systems, education, extension and advisory services

Theme 2: Agroecology and new farming arrangements

Theme 3: Integrating science, technology, policy and practice

Theme 4: Smart technologies in farming and food systems

Theme 5: Sustainable agrifood systems, value chains and power structures
